JAEMA JOY DANCE
who we are
Jaema Joy Dance is a collective of dance artists creating and performing interactive original contemporary dance in New York. Engaging with audiences and surrounding social networks is a key part of the company's creative process, weaving the artists' stories with the stories of individuals in the community.
Artistic Director Jaema Joy Green "thinks outside the box, but gently, sweetly, seductively."
(Sid Smith, SeeChicagoDance, Chicago Tribune.)

When the world shut down in March 2020, we had to cancel our regular rehearsal. Thinking it would be a short blip in our creative process, we moved to Zoom to catch up and make a dance anyway. We never stopped. Archive over on instagram @moveaboutit

DANCE STATS is an interactive contemporary dance experiment intended to both entertain and spark conversation between artists and audiences. DANCE STATS came to life at The Tank, a home for the arts, in 2016. Today it lives on digitally - you can be part of the experiment by watching dance pieces, voting on them, and learning which elements of the choreography you are drawn to (or not)!

word on the street
Sid Smith (Chicago Tribune, SeeChicagoDance): "precisely the sort of promising young talent the city would be wise to entice ... Let's hope she keeps slugging away. This is a dance maker whose intelligence and warm love for her art shine through in every endeavor."
"Her work impressed me greatly when on display a while back ... Berry may well be a case study in emerging choreographers of our day in that she combines a big of practicality with her artistic pursuit."
Zac Whittenberg (TimeOut Chicago):
"As Berry moves a floor full of dancers around, her facility with logistical knots becomes clear. ... Berry's movement turns halting gestures of romantic interest, defensive sarcasm, and commitment anxiety into a language of love's gestures (the way you hold your knife, the way you sip your tea)."
